Who's running for local office in April?
As the filing deadline passed Tuesday, Jan. 2, one contest had developed for one Spring Valley district on the 17-member Pierce County Board of Supervisors.
Spring elections will be held April 3, with primary elections preceding on Feb. 20 if necessary.
The following seats and issues will go before voters in April:

Pierce County Board
In District 9 Paula L. Lugar, Spring Valley, is challenging incumbent Ken Snow, Spring Valley, who has represented District 9 since 2008. This district includes the town of Gilman, Wards 1 and 2 of the village of Spring Valley and Ward 2 of the town of Spring Lake.
In the River Falls area, no candidate has filed for the District 5 seat now held by Ben Plunkett, who is not running for re-election. The district includes Wards 12 and 13 of the city of River Falls.
In Elmwood, Rick A. Talford filed for the District 10 seat after first-term supervisor Paul Fetzer decided not to run for re-election. This seat includes the village of Elmwood, the towns of El Paso and Rock Elm and Ward 1 of the town of Spring Lake.
John M. Krings, Arkansaw, is unopposed in his bid for the District 17 seat, currently held by Mel Pittman, who is running for the Senate District 31 seat, currently held by Sen. Kathleen Vinehout (D-Alma). District 17 is comprised of the villages of Maiden Rock and Plum City and towns of Maiden Rock, Salem and Union.
In these districts, the incumbents are running with no opposition:
District 1: Robert Mercord (Wards 3-5 of the city of Prescott)
District 2: LeRoy Peterson (Wards 1-3 of the town of Clifton and Ward 6 of the city of Prescott)
District 3: Jon Aubart (Ward 8 of the city of River Falls and Ward 3 of the town of River Falls)
District 4: Ruth Wood (Wards 5-7 of the city of River Falls)
District 6: Mike Kahlow (Wards 9 and 10, city of River Falls)
District 7: Scott Bjork (Wards 11 and 14, city of River Falls)
District 8: Dean Bergseng (Wards 1 and 2 of the town of River Falls and Ward 2 of the town of Martell)
District 11: Neil Gulbranson (Wards 2 and 4 of the village of Ellsworth and Ward 1 of the town of Ellsworth)
District 12: Dale Auckland (Ward 2 of the town of Ellsworth, Ward 1 of the town of Martell and Wards 1 and 3 of the village of Ellsworth)
District 13: Dan Reis (Ward 3 of the town of Oak Grove and Wards 1 and 2 of the town of Trimbelle)
District 14: Bill Schroeder (village of Bay City, towns of Harland and Isabelle and Ward 2 of the town of Trenton)
District 15: Jerry Kosin (Wards 1 and 2 of the city of Prescott and Ward 1 of the town of Oak Grove)
District 16: Jeff Holst (town of Diamond Bluff, Ward 2 of the town of Oak Grove and Ward 1 of the town of Trenton)
The names of candidates appearing on ballots for the school board positions in the county are (*denotes incumbent):
Ellsworth School Board: Two board seats, Gary Brown*, Kathryn Feuerhelm*, and Steve Mark Elmwood School Board: Three board seats, Susan Dzubay*, Craig Feuker* and Gabriel Weix*
Plum City School Board: Two board seats, Michael Whipple* and Erin Clare. Gail Fisher, who served on the board for six years, is departing.
Prescott School Board: Two board seats, Pat Block, Tanya Holub*, Woodson Lynes and James Reichert. Board President Mark Helmer will not seek another term.
River Falls School Board: Four board seats, Todd Andrews, Cindy Holbrook, Mike Miller*, Mike Thompson, Alan Tuchtenhagen*, and Kellen Wells-Mangold*. Mike Stifter filed non-candidacy paper.
Spring Valley School Board: Two board seats: Peter Coyne* and Brian Wang*
Village and town boards
Bay City Village Board: Two trustee seats currently held by Norman Baker and Davis Niebeling. Caucus will be held Jan. 10
Ellsworth Village Board: Three trustee seats, Michael J. Steele*, Richard Sweig* and Dick Hines*
Elmwood Village Board: Three trustee seats, Marge Binkowski, Josh Bleskacek*, and and Rick Stohr*. Incumbent Neil Boltik filed non-candidacy papers and will not be running.
Maiden Rock Village Board: Caucus will be held next week.
Oak Grove Town Board: Two supervisor seats, currently held by Eugene Schommer and Debra McClure. Caucus will be held Jan. 15.
Plum City Village Board: Two trustee seats, Peggy Gilles* and Kent Gilles*
Prescott Common Council: Mayor, David B. Hovel*; two alderperson seats, currently held by Joshua Gergen and William Dravis. Bailey A. Ruona has filed paperwork to be a write in candidate for alderperson at large. Gergen filed non-candidacy papers, while Dravis did not.
River Falls City Council: Alderperson District 4, Todd Bjerstedt* and Nathan Stauner; Alderperson at large, two seats, Jeff Bjork*, Judie Foster Babcock, Scott Morrissette* and Michael Page; mayor, Dan Toland* and Aaron Taylor (current council member); municipal judge, David Sienko and Daniel Gorman.
River Falls Town Board: Two supervisor seats, currently held by Joe Mahoney and Brad Mogen. Caucus will be held Tuesday, Jan 16.
Spring Valley Village Board: Three trustee seats, Dale Jacobson*, Matt Huepfel* and Rich O'Connell*
Trenton Town Board: Third supervisor, Herbert Oberg* and Fourth Supervisor Randy Trok* and Randall Christiansen.
